We are here on the futuristic and incredible Potsdamer Platz in Berlin. A few skyscrapers and a set that is together ultra modern, design, and on a human scale create a very pleasant, fulfilling and amazing place to live. This square is positioned on one of the old crossing points of the Berlin Wall. From a political and historical border known for its procession of dramatic stories, we have passed to a temple of capitalism, consumption, art and culture. The building at the foot of which we are standing here is one of the modernist buildings. I play it here, via my lens, with the reflections of the nearby park, created by the panes, and the verticality of both these windows and the imposing column in the foreground. A man passes in the middle of this set, questioning the spectator on the reality of the scene, and the difficult differentiation between nature and city, artificial verticality and more natural shots. A photo in the image of our existential questions but also of our joyful imaginations to which our lifestyles and our urban reveries sometimes refer us.

This image is issued from my collection « City Instants ». My artistic choice is based on a framing taking a vertical, like here, or horizontal plane as a vanishing point on a major surface, taking the viewer into a perspective with a strong depth of field.

Humanity has created cities and towns since Antiquity to gather there, to protect themselves, to find there commonly the facilities it needs, to exchange, to have fun there, in short to share there.

My images unearth sharing on every street corner; it is sometimes only about his idea or its evocation, even symbols.

The magic of the photo rests in this ability to freeze for eternity the unique and fleeting moment. So many moments, so many expressions gathered in a single framing. All these trajectories suddenly and for a short time combined. These thousand destinies then compose, through the eyes of the photographer, a great whole that exceeds everyone. Timeless rendering by black & white. This is how my City Instants are born.
