The East Side Gallery is a section of the Berlin Wall that is several kilometers long and has been intentionally left behind. It has become both a place of memory, but also of contemporary expression, because on its walls flourish very varied and changing frescoes. A separation wall that has become a huge canvas of works of art. It is this transformation that I wanted to highlight here, by settling in an opening in the wall to show its thickness, and even here there is a graphic expression that has been marked. This width of the section of wall is pursued by perspective to the last shots, which spread out in the distance, carrying all these modes of expression. A symbolism of the darkness of history, pursued today by much more positive forms. This is what my composition in two vertical parts underlines in this work.
This image is issued from my collection « City Instants ». My artistic choice is based on a framing taking a vertical, like here, or horizontal plane as a vanishing point on a major surface, taking the viewer into a perspective with a strong depth of field.
Humanity has created cities and towns since Antiquity to gather there, to protect themselves, to find there commonly the facilities it needs, to exchange, to have fun there, in short to share there.
My images unearth sharing on every street corner; it is sometimes only about his idea or its evocation, even symbols.
The magic of the photo rests in this ability to freeze for eternity the unique and fleeting moment. So many moments, so many expressions gathered in a single framing. All these trajectories suddenly and for a short time combined. These thousand destinies then compose, through the eyes of the photographer, a great whole that exceeds everyone. Timeless rendering by black & white. This is how my City Instants are born.
